A Little Swank and a Whole Lot of Sweetness: Louisville, Kentucky

An unexpected stop on our cross-country trip, but probably the most exciting was Louisville, Kentucky. Do not pass up your chance to soak in the charms of this city. We loved it so much, we extended our stay an additional night! Here is my guide to taking in the sights, sounds, and flavors of a city that will surprise you!

Our first morning in town we headed straight for coffee at Heine Brother's Coffee in the vibrant uptown area. I loved the pictures of Guatemala on the walls, showing respect to the workers who cultivate the world's most beloved bean!

This gets you started for a day of exploration. Great little shops and eateries dot the road, it’s a walkable, fun, artsy area. Once you've worked up your appetite, grab tapas at ZÄD Modern Mediterranean - it's perfect for dining with friends or even a lunch date.

Heading downtown, do not miss the art show at the 21c Museum Hotel, you will be amazed at a mix of modern and interactive art, green penguins will leave you smiling.

Make sure to snap a pic at the world’s largest Louisville Slugger, (you did know this is where they make them, right?) this was cool for us since our groomsmen all received a custom slugger on our wedding day, and this trip was during our anniversary.

For perfect river views and a chance to stretch your legs, walk across The Big Four Bridge to Indiana and back. It sounds far, but it’s a treat with classical music piped in, placards displaying historic information, and great views on the bridge walk. Scroll up to see the pic - first photo on the top.

Martini Italian Bistro
The swanky shopping district plays host to plenty of great restaurants - we enjoyed great Italian cooking at the Martini Bistro for our 4-year wedding Anniversary celebration.

Dear friends and great live music beckoned us to our jazzy stop at Majid's where I even got to belt out a few blue notes! (Thanks guys!)

I wasn’t able to make it to Churchill Downs, but it’s a great excuse to visit again! If you're here on a Sunday, don't miss amazing worship and great preaching at Southeast Christian Church.

We stayed with friends this time, but these AirBnB’s caught my eye, run by superhost named Susan, a urban farmer with a great eye:
